I vow to ski again this year.

By Pam Sherman | September 26, 2007

I really have succumbed to being an Upstate New Yorker (frankly I don’t know where I live - apparently it’s Western New York - I didn’t even know there was a Western New York when I lived in NYC now I live there) because in August I was at the ski store getting my kids their skis for the season. I told my husband not to count on me actually skiing this year. Now that I’ve got my entire family skiing - why would I ski? This is an opportunity to be alone in my house while they are skiing. But I think I’m now committed to skiing because I just bought the cutest outfit at a ski store that was going out of business. Maybe the reason I don’t like to ski is because my outfit was really ugly - - a hideous red jacket and a black pair of ski pants from Target. Well, this store going out of business has given me the reason to ski - the cutest little white jacket and pants - I mean I can’t get them dirty as I will wear them in the whitest of snow right? I keep picturing Claudia Cardinale in the movie “Casino Royale” with David Niven by the fire in the Swiss Alps - she wore white and looked fabulous and didn’t ski and David Niven loved her for it. My husband feels that now I’ve spent the money (no points for the 75% savings) it means I have to take a religious vow to join my family on the slopes. Can’t I just look cute by the fire like Claudi Cardinale - of course my hsuband is no David Niven - so I might as well ski. I’ll see you on the slopes….or in the Starbucks.

Pam, Did you go to Grey Rocks or did you impale yourself on some other mountainside? I can’t stand how fast my kids race around and how slowly I plod. Yes, plodding on skiis is possible! R
