Day Light Savings Time
By Pam Sherman | March 26, 2008
If you’ve been wondering where I’ve been - I’ve been in Australia, then we returned and while recovering from that jet lag we entered that time of year called Day Light Savings Time - which further set me back. I don’t know about you but I like it to be dark when it’s so gray and dreary out. I do not like it being light at 6:00 when the temperature is still 30 degrees. I read that people suffer from a kind of a jet lag from Day Light Savings Time — that is because they are like hibernating bears - you don’t want to wake them up too early. I’m still yawning and stretching and frankly I like my days to be short when the weather stinks. But really this winter has not been bad - mainly because we went to Australia for those two weeks. For two weeks this winter it was summer for us. I love this upside down world. On our trip we kept running into Scandinavians who had left home for like four months to come to summer below the equator. Isn’t that brilliant? Whatever time of year the weather is bad in your country - - just leave! Pick up and go. What does that do the economy that is what I want to know. How do they run their businesses? I was stressed about being away for two weeks - -what about 4 months? Get back to work! I don’t care if it’s gray and cold and the sun is down for 6 months - nose to the grindstone and all.
But really our trip was amazing. I think it’s really important to put away your everyday life every so often and get out of your comfort zone and that is exactly what Australia was all about. Oddly enough the trip which I was so worried about turned out to be really easy. Never took that Xanax - -kept it in my pocket the whole time. Just knowing it was there helped me through. Also, we were so far away my kids had to get along - - no one else for them to turn to but one another. We had good weather karma, good hotel karma, and good health karma. This is all in contrast to a little trip we just took this past weekend to Ft. Myers Florida, where we were all sick and it rained most of the trip. That little four day trip was harder than going half way around the world. I guess it’s all how you look at things. Sometimes the things that are harder to do have a bigger pay off - -and that should remind me that every time I think about not doing them I should do them anyway.
Of course, I’m still recovering from my Daylight Savings Times Jet Lag…so I don’t really know what I’m saying.
