“Kosher Edition”: When Oy Meets Girl by William Triplett
In “The Kosher Edition” playing at the JCC of Northern Virginia, Ruby Aron (Pam Sherman is a Borscht Belt stand-up comic. Engaged to a goy, she jokes about the effect that marrying outside the faith will have on her mother. But this is just a cover for the effect it seems to be having on her., in particular her insecure sense of identity and heritage. So she starts reading about famous formidable Jewish women, hoping to gain some insight into herself by finding out how they defined themselves….
Sherman, as Ruby, works the room well, doing her best to make sure everyone is having a good time, that you’d think she had experience in stand-up. Her Ruby has spot-on comic timing along with the endearing quality of self-deprecation….
